Ophthalmology is a specialization which deals with diagnosis and treatment of diseases and disorders of the eye. Ophthalmologists are expert doctors who diagnose and treat all eye diseases. Ophthalmologists perform diagnosis for all types of eye problems and treat with medication and if required perform minor and major eye surgeries.

Refractive Errors are defect in the refractive state of the eye. The major causes are Myopia, Hypermetropia, Astigmatisay and Presbyopia. Defective Vision, eye strain, headache are the main symptoms. This can be corrected by spectacles, Contact lens, Laser and PHAKIC IDLs.
Cataract is opacification of the naturally transparent Crystalline lens. The major cause is ageing. Symptoms are defective vision, polyopia and glare. Cataract can be treated by surgery.
The optic nerve is affected which is painless and asymptomatic. When patient is aware of the condition, the disease is in advanced stage. After 30 years of age, routine eye examination would help to diagnose at an early stage. Initially medically it can be treated and surgery maybe required for advanced stage.
Good control of the Diabetes is the Prevention for the eye diabetic complications. Diseases can be treated with Lasers, Intra Vitreal Medicine as well as Surgical Intervention help to save the vision.
The Macula, which is the seeing part of the eye is affected. Treatment would be Lasers, Intravitreal Medicines and Surgery.
Chemical injuries pose a great threat to the vision. The first aid should be to wash the eye continuously with 2-3 liters of clean water. Blunt and Perforating injuries are managed based on the severity.
Amblyopia is also known as lazy eyes. High uncorrected Refractive error in childhood and Squint are the main causes. Any Squint persisting after 6 month of birth need through evaluation.
Pterygium is a degenerative disease which is cosmetically unacceptable and at a later stage affects the vision and Cornea. Surgical removal and Conjunctival Autograft are the best treatments.
Inflammation of outer cover of the eye is conjunctivitis. Redness, discharge, photophobia watering and irritation are the symptoms. Usually appropriate eye drops helps to treat the condition.
Lack of lacrimation which keeps the eye moist is Dry Eye and excessive lacrimation is Epiphora. Dry Eye can be usually treated with Medicine and advanced staged would require surgical intervention. Epiphora usually needs surgery.
